Curly Nikki does the Midwest!!!!!!

Hey, Just wanted to share with you a couple of pics from a natural hair meet and greet I attended hosted by blogging diva Curly Nikki at Club EXO Lounge in St. Louis, Mo. This was a free event sponsored by Shea Moisture. I have never seen so many natural hair beauti's in one place. I had a great time, and met so many beautiful people. The atmosphere was nice, the food was nice, and the drinks where flowing all night long.

Don't Mess with Texas: The manicure

Nail Color: don't Mess with Texas
Brand: OPI
This is one of the prettiest greens that I have seen in a while. It compliments my skin tone well. I had a break from doing my daughter's hair, and decided to give myself a manicure.

Giovanni Shampoo

This is the shampoo that I am using on my SL's. It works great. Since I have been maintaining my locks myself, I try to find shampoo that will clean my locks and keep them looking great. I love it. It makes my hair feel clean and fresh. I purchased, Golden Wheat, Tea Tree Triple Treat, and 50/50 Balance. The Tea Tree and Golden Wheat are especially great because they have peppermint, spearmint and rosemary as ingredients for scalp circulation. It lathers great and rinses out well. I purchased two 8oz. bottles from TJ Maxx for $4.99 and the larger 33.5 oz. of 50/50 balance shampoo for $12.99, that is the best value. You can also purchase it from Marshalls and Ulta.

GOLDEN WHEAT
For normal to oily hair:
- Cleanses hair and scalp by removing natural oils
- Encourages volume and shine
- Creates a clean palette for style
- Zero sulfates

TEA TREE TRIPLE TREAT (The best!)
For all hair types:
- Increases scalp circulation for a refreshed, renewed feel
- Strengthens hair with a three-organic-all-blend to stimulate, condition and clarify
- Alleviates dry, flaking scalp with organic tea tree botanicals
- Zero sulfates

My New Do!!!!!!

This is my first pin up. Although my hair is still a little short, I love it. It's nice to do something a little different with my locks every now and then.

March 2011 Favorites

My new love, man did I sleep on this!
NARS Lovejoy blush, its a shimmering bronze rose color. This picture does not do this blush any justice. Check out my Look of the Night post for more pics.

Look of the night!

This is the look I wore to the Kem concert in St. Louis. Even though I have Sisterlocks, I decided to switch it up a bit. I wore this synthetic lace front wig by Beshe called LW Drew. It was purchased from elevatedstyles.com
I am also wearing the True Romance pallet by Kat Von D called Metal Orchestra, purchased from Sephora.

 Hope you like,

8th Month Length Check.

These pic's were taken in January, about 8 months in. My hair has grown well and filled in nicely. It has come a long way from where it started.  I have some issues at the top and on the right side, but I've learned to camouflage well.  Overall, I love my locks. They have given me a new lease on life. Most, if not all of my sister locks have completely locked. I have been through a lot of ups and downs with my hair. At one point I almost took them out. At the crown of my head, I developed Scarred Alopecia before my locks where installed (from relaxing, braiding, etc.)so, I was not sure if the SL's would be a good fit for me. If you catch it early, you may still have a chance to keep your hair. Once I visited my Dermatologist for the third and final time, I made the decision to keep my locks. I was told by the doctor that there is no quick fix for this type of hair loss. The only thing that could be permanent is a hair transplant. This is when hair along with the top layer of your scalp/skin is removed from a good area of your head (usually the back or sides) and is placed in the balding areas. It can cost in the range of $3000 to $8000 dollars, and it is not guaranteed.  The doctor also made it very clear to me the if I decided to keep my locks, I would have to be very careful with pulling and tugging on them. They cannot be tight at all. When I get them re tightened, I don't get them tighten all the way to the scalp. This method is working for me now, we'll see what the future holds. ;)

Signs of Scarred Alopecia: They are not noticeable at first.

A large amount of shedding hair, more than usual. If you run your fingers through your hair and you see strands with follicles attached, do not ignore this, see a dermatologist immediately.

Soreness of the scalp, especially around the hairline. Even if you just rub.

Soreness red or tenderness when you get a new relaxer or braids.

Shiny or smooth surface.

Believe it, Do it. The manicure.

Nail Color: Believe it, Do it.
Brand: Nicole by OPI
The color looks great on my skin tone. Two coats where applied to my natural nails with a base coat and a top coat. I'm lovin the design my nail tech did. This just screams summer. This manicure is about three days old. Hope you like.

Peace,

Diva Curls

This is my first attempt at rodding my sisterlocks. I love it. I used small pink curl rods from Sally's. Before I rodded them, I sprayed my hair with water, peppermint, rosemary and lavender essential oils mixed with a little organic coconut oil. I use this daily when I need moisture. (But not on curls.) You can use mousse if you like. That's totally up to you. The curls held up well. They'll be really tight when you first wear them, but will loosen up after a couple of days. I only wore them for about a week, your curls start to flatten after you sleep on them. If you sleep in a satin cap, it will help the curls last longer.
